Co:LLECTIVE is a community of entrepreneurs and business owners committed to helping each other succeed.
Of course this sounds really great (especially with the trendy name right??), but the challenge is figuring out how to actually make that happen. You see, there's plenty of networking events out there for entrepreneurs and business owners. Many of them have become glorified business card exchanges, where everyone is looking to hit up everyone else for business, and nobody actually connects with each other.
Kahlil (bringmethere), Chris (New Leaf Web Solutions) and I started Co:LLECTIVE as a reaction to our experiences with these groups. Networking groups have their advantages, but we realized that what we really desired from networking was a place to connect with other people like us, share ideas, and get feedback in a flexible environment. So I lied. Co:LLECTIVE isn't a networking event. It's a collaborating event (oOoOoOo entrepreneurship buzzwords!).
One of the ways we shaped Co:LLECTIVE for collaboration was to make it an all-day event. The idea is that it is a big day of coworking, with structured opportunities for learning and feedback. And ultimately, it is what you make it! The more engaged and interactive you are with others, the more you'll get out of it.
At the beginning of the day, everyone fills out a Skills Card and a Hopper Card. The Skills Card is what it sounds like - you jot down your skills, proficiencies and experiences that you can contribute to the group. The Hopper Card is for our Idea Hopper - you write a challenge, pain point or business idea that you want to get feedback, input or advice on. Throughout the day we hold mini-sessions on topics/challenges from the Hopper and whoever wants to contribute hops in!
It's a beautiful thing when people get together with the purpose of asking for help and offering help to others. It's a taste of what we get to experience every day working at Axis901, and we want more people to be able to experience that as well.
And an added bonus - The Brew Crew is back in action at the end of the day (4PM) for beers and casual networking!
